Key Takeaway
We ranked 90+ money transfer providers using real data — not opinions. Here are the best apps for sending money internationally in 2026.

How We Ranked These Apps
Quick answer: The best money transfer app in 2026 is Wise, based on 90+ providers priced across 300+ corridors and refreshed every 6 hours. Wise prices at or very close to the mid-market rate — we measure 0.48% median across the 364 corridors we quote it on — with fees from 0.41%, and it is cheapest on 48 of the 216 corridors we can compare, more corridors than any other provider. Trustpilot: 4.3/5 (300K reviews). TapTap Send is the pick for most people sending a normal remittance: cheapest on 40 of the 216 corridors we can compare — second only to Wise — with the widest coverage we measure at 819 corridors, free transfers above $250 (and free at every amount on most corridors we price), and 95% delivered in under 3 minutes. Remitly also delivers in minutes via express transfer to over 175 countries, though it leads on far fewer corridors. Instarem is the strongest low-cost alternative, charging zero transfer fees on most corridors at a measured average markup of 0.71% median across the 162 corridors we quote it on — against 2–4% at a typical bank. Which app is actually cheapest changes with your route and amount, so compare yours rather than taking any ranking on trust. For large transfers over $5,000, OFX offers $0 fees and dedicated currency dealers. We ranked every app using real quote data from 300+ corridors, not opinions.
Which of our pages you want. This one ranks providers on measured cost from live quotes. If you want to understand why cost varies rather than who is cheapest today, read how transfer pricing actually works. If cost is not your only criterion — country coverage, cash pickup, an account you can hold money in — see best money transfer services, which weighs features alongside price.
Three of our published studies sit behind this ranking, and each is reproducible from the same quote archive:
- Provider consistency — who is actually cheapest, and how often. No provider wins everywhere: the leader takes 48 of the 216 corridors we can compare, and on a quarter of corridors today's cheapest is not the usual winner.
- Remittance Cost Index — total cost to send $1,000, by provider. Specialists average $31.03 against $57.61 for banks, or 46% cheaper.
- Research hub — the full set, including how cost varies by transfer amount and by day of week.
Unlike comparison sites that rely on subjective reviews, we ranked providers using hard data:
- thousands of real quotes scraped across 300+ corridors and 5 transfer amounts ($100–$10,000)
- Exchange rate markup compared to the mid-market rate. Read our guide to exchange rate markups to understand this metric.
- Fees at each transfer size
- Trustpilot scores from real users (combined 1.3 million+ reviews). Ratings sourced from Trustpilot, refreshed daily by our scraper.
- App Store and Google Play ratings for all 16 providers, collected on the same day from the same storefront. We rank on Trustpilot, not these — see why they disagree below.
- Corridor coverage — how many countries they support
- Delivery speed — estimated transfer time
The World Bank Remittance Prices Worldwide database provides independent cost benchmarks. All providers listed are regulated by the FCA, FinCEN, or equivalent regulators.

1. Wise — Best Overall
Trustpilot: 4.3/5 (300K reviews) | Apps: 4.6 App Store / 4.8 Google Play | Measured markup: 0.48% median across the 364 corridors we quote it on | Total cost on $1,000: 0.68% (USD→INR)
Wise is the gold standard for transparent international transfers. They're the only major provider that charges zero exchange rate markup — you always get the real mid-market rate. Their fee is shown upfront and scales with the transfer amount.
Best for: Medium to large transfers ($500+) where the 0% markup saves you the most. Excellent app with real-time tracking and multi-currency accounts. See how Wise compares to Remitly for specific corridors.
Drawbacks: Fee can be noticeable on very small transfers ($50–$100). Not the fastest for all corridors.
2. TapTap Send — Widest Coverage, Instant, and Free Above $250
Apps: 4.7 App Store / 4.7 Google Play | Measured markup: 0.94% median across the 770 corridors we quote it on | Cheapest on 40 of the 216 corridors we can compare
We do not track a Trustpilot score for TapTap Send, so none is quoted here.
TapTap Send ranks third of the 66 providers in our consistency index and is cheapest on 40 of the 216 corridors we can compare — behind only Wise, and ahead of every other app on this page. It also has the widest footprint we measure by a wide margin: 819 corridors, against 89 for the next-broadest specialist. That combination is the reason it is this high: plenty of providers are cheap on a handful of routes, but very few are both cheap and available almost everywhere. It is also the outright leader on 12 corridors — including CAD → CNY, EUR → CNY, EUR → GBP — where it delivered the most on every one of the last 91 days we could compare.
Fees are the simple part. We priced it across seven major corridors at $100, $200, $250, $300 and $1,000: free at every amount on six of the seven, with only USD→PKR charging below $250 and free from $250 up. Its measured exchange-rate markup is 0.94% median across the 770 corridors we quote it on, and its all-in cost on $1,000 is 1.49% — roughly half the 2.96% specialist average.
Speed: 95% of transfers delivered in under 3 minutes, which is why it wins on urgency as well as price.
Best for: essentially any corridor it serves — Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Colombia, the Philippines, India and well beyond. Accepts debit card, bank transfer, Google Pay, Apple Pay and UPI. Multi-currency account available for UK and EU users. Founded by Michael Faye, who also founded GiveDirectly.
Drawbacks: Mobile app only — no full website transfer experience. No cash pickup option. Multi-currency account limited to UK and EU.
3. Instarem — Best Low-Cost Alternative
Trustpilot: 4.1/5 (9K reviews) | Apps: 3.8 App Store / 3.7 Google Play | Measured markup: 0.71% median across the 162 corridors we quote it on | Avg Fee: $0
Instarem consistently appears near the top of our comparisons with zero fees and very low markup. They're particularly strong for Asia-Pacific corridors (Singapore, Australia, India, Philippines).
Best for: Transfers within Asia-Pacific and from Australia/Singapore. Zero fees make them excellent for regular senders.
Drawbacks: Smaller company with fewer corridors than Wise or Remitly. Less brand recognition.
4. XE — Best for Currency Tools
Trustpilot: 4.4/5 (87K reviews) | Apps: 4.8 App Store / 4.6 Google Play | Measured markup: 0.63% median across the 89 corridors we quote it on | Avg Fee: $0
XE is the world's most trusted currency data provider and their transfer service leverages that expertise. They offer no-fee transfers, rate alerts, and excellent currency tools. Their app includes live rate tracking and historical charts.
Best for: People who want to time their transfers for the best rate. Great currency tools and rate alert system.
Drawbacks: Markup is higher than Wise or Instarem. Less competitive for large transfers.
5. Remitly — Best for Remittances
Trustpilot: 4.6/5 (120K reviews) | Apps: 4.9 App Store / 4.8 Google Play | Measured markup: 1.02% median across the 224 corridors we quote it on | Avg Fee: $0–$3.99
Remitly specializes in remittances to developing countries and excels at it, reaching 175+ receive countries from 30+ send countries. It offers two tiers, and the difference between them is the exchange rate rather than the fee: Express reaches the recipient faster at a slightly less favourable rate, while Economy is slower but typically prices at a better rate. Their $0 fee option makes them very competitive for small to medium transfers.
Best for: Sending to India, Philippines, Mexico, Nigeria, and other popular remittance corridors. Excellent first-time user promotions. Funding options include debit and credit card, bank transfer, Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus PayTo for Australian senders.
Drawbacks: The rate markup is higher than Wise's 0%, and Express buys its speed with a less favourable rate — on larger amounts that costs more than Wise's flat fee. Remitly is built around remittance corridors rather than developed-market pairs, though it does cover them: USD to EUR is available and often carries no transfer fee, with the cost sitting in the exchange rate instead.
6. OFX — Best for Large Transfers
Trustpilot: 4.2/5 (11K reviews) | Apps: 4.8 App Store / 4.2 Google Play | Measured markup: 3.43% median across the 176 corridors we quote it on | Fee: $0
OFX (formerly OzForex) specializes in large transfers for businesses and individuals. They offer no transfer fees, dedicated dealers for transfers over $10,000, and forward contracts to lock in exchange rates.
Best for: Large transfers ($10,000+), business payments, and property purchases abroad. Dedicated dealer support.
Drawbacks: Higher markup than specialist remittance services. Minimum transfer amounts in some corridors.
Providers to Avoid
Based on our data, these options consistently deliver poor value:
- PayPal — Trustpilot: 1.4/5 (41K reviews), but 4.8 App Store / 4.2 Google Play. High markups (3–4%) plus conversion fees. The worst-rated major provider on Trustpilot by a wide margin, and the clearest example of why an app-store score alone tells you very little.
- Traditional banks — Chase, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America charge 2.5–4% markup plus $25–$50 wire fees. Our data shows they cost 3–5x more than specialist providers.
The only exception is if your bank offers a preferential rate for large transfers — always ask before defaulting to the standard rate. The CFPB and KNOMAD data both show bank transfers are consistently the most expensive option for consumers.
App Store Ratings vs Trustpilot — Why They Disagree
App-store ratings and Trustpilot ratings measure different things, and the gap between them is wide enough to change which provider looks best. Apps ask for a rating inside the app, usually moments after a transfer has gone through — a point chosen because the customer is happy. Trustpilot reviews are written on a separate site that people generally visit on purpose, often to complain. The result is that almost every provider scores between 4.6 and 4.9 on the App Store, while the same providers spread from 1.3 to 4.7 on Trustpilot. PayPal is the extreme case: 1.3 on Trustpilot against 4.8 on the App Store.

Review counts in brackets. "Gap" is the average app-store score minus the Trustpilot score. App-store figures are the US storefront, collected 2026-09-12; a provider's own marketing usually quotes a global total, which is a larger number than any single storefront reports.
We rank on Trustpilot because it actually separates providers and the reviews are independently verifiable. We publish the app-store numbers next to it because readers ask for them, and because the gap is itself informative — a provider with a wide gap usually has a well-built app sitting in front of a weaker service record. Read neither number on its own.
One practical warning: store ratings differ by country. Every figure above is the US storefront, collected on the same day for all 16 providers so the comparison is like-for-like. A provider's own marketing typically quotes a worldwide total, which will always be a bigger number than any single storefront reports — so a provider's published count and the count here can both be right.
Sources & Methodology
Data in this article is based on real quotes collected from provider APIs and websites via automated scraping every 6 hours. Exchange rates and fees change frequently — use our comparison tool for the latest rates.
Trustpilot scores and app-store ratings are refreshed by our own scrapers and injected into this page at build time, so the figures above are never hand-typed. App-store data comes from the Apple iTunes lookup API and the Google Play listing for each provider's app, US storefront.
