Serbia IBAN questions
Can a dinar payment to Serbia go by SEPA?
No. SEPA carries euro transfers only, so a payment meant to arrive in dinars goes another way.
Can I move my own money from abroad into a Serbian foreign-currency account?
Yes. The NBS returnee guide (October 2019) says such transfers face no restrictions; banks apply anti-money-laundering measures from EUR 15,000.
Does a Serbian bank mix euros and dollars in one account?
No. NBS rules make the bank keep each foreign currency credited to a person's account separately.
Serbia's SEPA euro transfers and the NBS IPS dinar system
Serbia joined the geographical scope of the SEPA schemes on 22 May 2025, the European Payments Council announced. In July 2026 the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) reported that it and 18 of the 19 banks operating in Serbia had adhered to the SEPA Credit Transfer scheme, with May 2026 the earliest date for taking part.
- For a SEPA euro transfer the NBS says the payee is credited within one business day and receives the full amount, with no intermediary-bank deductions.
- Dinar payments can run on IPS, the NBS's instant system since 22 October 2018: open around the clock, settling in seconds, up to RSD 300,000 an order.
- A foreign national is a non-resident for the first year in Serbia, the NBS explains, and may hold dinar and foreign-currency accounts.
