No. The four-letter bank identifier belongs inside Latvia’s 21-character IBAN. Removing it leaves an incomplete payment instruction.

Keep the Latvian bank identifier with the account
Latvia’s IBAN is 21 characters and begins LV. After the two check digits comes a four-letter bank identifier. Those letters are part of the IBAN, not an optional label that can be omitted from an online payment form.
- For a Latvian rent or supplier payment, use the entire LV instruction from the recipient’s bank. Copying only the numeric tail loses the bank identifier and the international check digits.
- A printed IBAN may be grouped for readability. Compare the unspaced version with the source, especially where a letter resembles a digit; do not infer an account holder from the bank identifier.
- Those four letters are the first four characters of the bank’s BIC. Latvijas Banka’s BIC is LACBLV2X, so accounts it holds carry LACB; Industra Bank’s MULTLV2X gives MULT. When a Latvian recipient sends both an IBAN and a BIC, check that the letters agree: a mismatch is worth a question before the money leaves.
- Latvia swapped the lats for the euro on 1 January 2014, so an everyday Latvian current account is held in euros. A tenancy agreement or invoice that still quotes LVL predates the changeover; ask the recipient for current euro payment details.
