We price Western Union against every provider that quotes the same corridors. Across the 232 corridors we hold a $1,000 quote for it, Western Union’s median true cost is 2.32% — fee and exchange-rate markup combined. 8 specialists come out cheaper on the routes they share with it. The largest gap is TapTap Send, at 0.66% against Western Union’s 2.57% on the 127 corridors both quote — about $19.10 per $1,000 sent, and cheaper on 92% of those corridors.
Each row is a head-to-head, not a league table. “Shared” is the number of corridors we hold a $1,000 quote for both providers on; the two cost columns are medians across exactly those corridors, so a provider is never credited for routes it does not serve. Win rate is how often it actually came out cheaper — a large saving with a win rate near 50% means a few routes are carrying it, not a consistent edge.
| Provider | Shared | Their cost | Western Union | Saved / $1,000 | Win rate |

Medians describe the typical route, not yours. The cheapest provider on a given corridor on a given day is the one that matters.
A page called “alternatives” that only lists what is cheaper is a sales page. These specialists are measurably more expensive than Western Union on the corridors they share with it.
True total cost is (mid-market receive − actual receive) ÷ mid-market receive, so it captures the transfer fee and the exchange-rate markup in one number. Quotes are collected from provider APIs and websites every six hours; these are the ones at $1,000 in the send currency, collected September 20, 2026.
Figures are medians on shared corridors only: a provider quoting fewer than 8 of the same routes as Western Union is left out rather than given a row built on a handful of them. Ranking on site-wide averages would compare corridor mixes rather than prices.
Providers are ranked only on fee and FX cost — account features, cash-pickup networks and delivery speed are not in this ranking. See the full methodology and the Remittance Cost Index.
