Ahsan Mukhtar is the founder and CEO of SendMoneyCompare, an independent comparison platform for international money transfers. He set up the company to bring the same price transparency to sending money abroad that comparison sites brought to insurance and utilities — where the best price for a product is visible at a glance, rather than buried in calculator pages across a dozen provider websites.

His founding insight was that the cost of sending money abroad is almost entirely opaque at the point of decision. A sender choosing between providers sees advertised exchange rates, flat fees, and percentage markups stated in different ways, making it difficult to compare like for like. SendMoneyCompare's approach is to compute a single figure — the amount the recipient actually receives for a fixed amount sent — and rank providers on that number, with full disclosure of the fee and the exchange rate applied to each quote.

Every provider ranking on SendMoneyCompare is produced from real transfer data collected from provider APIs and websites every six hours. The order is computed from what a recipient actually receives, not chosen by hand, and whether a provider pays the site plays no part in the result. Where payouts fall within 0.1% of each other, the higher-rated provider appears first, and that rule is disclosed on every comparison page.

Ahsan fact-checks the provider reviews before publication, verifying fee structures, exchange-rate markups and delivery times against the platform's own scraped quote history rather than against provider marketing. Where a review's figure and the dataset disagree, the dataset wins or the claim is removed. Day-to-day editorial sits with the editor-in-chief.

He leads outreach with publishers, diaspora communities and financial educators, with the aim of helping more people find transparent comparison data when sending money abroad. This work includes partnerships with community organisations, financial literacy publishers, and media outlets covering personal finance and international remittances.

Ahsan holds a background in marketing and business development across financial services and consumer technology. Before founding SendMoneyCompare he worked on growth for companies operating in multi-currency, cross-border and fintech markets, giving him a direct view of how providers price international transfers and how little of that pricing is ordinarily visible to senders.
